EFFECTIVENESS OF A RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOR EDUCATION PROGRAM IN REDUCING TEACHERS’ EMOTIONAL DISTRESS

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a Rational Emotive Education program in reducing the level of irrationality, dysfunctional emotions and behaviors of teachers. Forty teachers participated in the study. Results showed a decrease in the level of irrationality (medium and large effect sizes), inferences (small effect size), emotional distress (medium and small effect sizes) and dysfunctional behaviors (large effect sizes). Results were maintained at four-month follow-up for worry and depression (small effect size) and some of the dysfunctional behaviors (large effects sizes). Also, changes in irrationality mediated emotional and behavioral change.
