Editorial
This is a special issue of the Journal of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychotherapies, dedicated to the memory of Dr. Albert Ellis, who has recently passed away. Therefore, as a tribute to him, we have reduced the number of articles in this issue (e.g., postponed those already accepted and /or in press) to include (1) a special article dedicated to his memory: Quo Vadis CBT? Trans-cultural perspectives on the past, present, and future of cognitive-behavioral therapies: Interviews with the current leadership in cognitive-behavioral therapies, interviews, which were taken right before his death and (2) only research article mainly related to [his] rational-emotive behavior therapy.
Editorial: Five Years of Excellence!
The Romanian Journal of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychotherapies was founded in 2001, as the official publication of the Romanian Association of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychotherapies. Because of the high standards promoted by the editorial board, the Romanian Journal of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychotherapies has quickly become influential in promoting cognitive and behavioral psychotherapies in Eastern and Central Europe, and was abstracted in the PsycInfo (beginning with 2004). Taking into account the brief period of the journal’s activity (2001-2004) all these accomplishments are notable. Dwelling on these results and taking into account the suggestions of many professionals in the clinical field, we have pushed our contribution in cognitive and behavioral psychotherapies a step further.
Overview to the special edition
There are many ways to think of philosophy such as love of knowledge, learning how arguments hold together, whether propositions are morally sound, and that philosophy can be grounded in either mathematics or language. While Whitehead once quipped that all Western philosophy was nothing more than a footnote to that which already had been addressed by Plato, there do seem to be some new ways of constructing and evaluating arguments.
Closing remarks to the special issue: cognitive behavioral therapy in search of itself
As sciences become more mature, they tend to review many of their philosophical assumptions, which were previously ignored due to demands for scientific rigor. This reevaluation is a kind of “search for meaning” beyond the empirical data the science might have generated by rigorous research. It is an interesting phenomenon, because it represents a search for a deeper understanding of what one chose to negate in the first place.
